AllMusic Review by

A budget-priced box set containing 40 tracks across four discs, Best of House is a stellar collection that traces the best of late-'80s and early-'90s house music, balancing a mix of seminal Chicago tracks with equally solid British follow-ups. Besides quite a few guaranteed club classics -- Marshall Jefferson's "Move Your Body," and Farley Jackmaster Funk's "Love Can't Turn Around," Steve Silk Hurley's "Jack Your Body," Ralphi Rosario's "You Used to Hold Me" -- there are more obscure but inspired tracks like Fingers Inc.'s "Can You Feel It," Kevin Saunderson's Reese Project on "So Deep," and Jesse Saunders' "On and On." The British tracks are no less influential, including "LFO" and "What Is House" by LFO, "Aftermath" by Nightmares on Wax, "Please Don't Go" by KWS, and "Get Out on the Dancefloor" by D.O.P. Many budget compilations draw in buyers with a few hits but then don't follow through with consistently good tracks; Best of House focuses only on great songs, whether they were club hits or not.
