This is yet another volume in the Best of Buena Vista series. And while it reeks of dashed-off packaging and cynical marketing, so what? These 14 tracks smoke, pure and simple; these sons, charangas, meringues, and even pseudo cha chas are full of raw soul, intense musicianship, burning emotion, and engaged, communicative collaboration by the great guitarist Eliades Ochoa and his many collaborators, who include the rest of the Buena Vista gang and other less well-known Cuban all-stars. The entire series is sonically wonderful, and this volume in particular is so immediate and raw emotionally that it cannot be overlooked.
