AllMusic Review by

Best of Blues: Original Blues Classics is a budget compilation collecting both acoustic and electric recordings before and after WW ll, a pivotal period in the evolution of the blues. There are raw country-blues tunes, some electric blues, piano blues, and even some jump blues, but they aren't put together in any sort of instructive context, be it chronological or stylistic. There are many well-known songs here (some were appropriated by rock & roll) and some of blues music's greatest players are represented, but it's presented as nothing more than a haphazard collection of excellent tunes. That won't bother some people, for whom this budget collection will suffice. This is a good collection of music, but it's scattershot approach leaves a little to be desired, especially for those wishing to learn more.
