AllMusic Review by

This three-disc box set from Madacy Records brings together a trio of albums (Try a Little Tenderness, When a Man Loves a Woman, Baby I Love You) originally released as individual titles by Collectables Records in that label's 60s Soul series. The tracks compiled are undeniably classic ones, with most of them coming from Stax Records, including hit sides by Aretha Franklin ("Respect," "Chain of Fools"), Booker T. & the MG's ("Green Onions"), Sam & Dave ("Hold On! I'm Comin'," "Soul Man"), Otis Redding ("(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay") and Wilson Pickett ("Land of 1000 Dances," "Funky Broadway"). Each of the discs is rather short, though, running just a little over 30 minutes in length, which means this could easily have been packaged as a double-disc set. But every song is great.
