In keeping with the band's imperfect career, The Best From the Noise Years takes an imperfect stab at assembling the best moments from German melodic thrashers Rage. In the compilers' defense, choosing an ideal set of "hits" from such an inconsistent and extensive body of work (Rage were always very prolific -- you have to give them that) is not just daunting, but impossible. With that in mind, it's nice to sample memorable singles like "Suicide," "Light Into the Darkness," "Time Waits for Noone," and "Enough Is Enough" as they are paraded before the court; and it's equally frustrating to find just one submission from 1988's career-best Perfect Man LP ("Don't Fear the Winter") and no "Waiting for the Moon."
