AllMusic Review by

As Canada teeters on the brink of constitutional and cultural disintegration, along comes Stompin' Tom to save the day.

Believe in Your Country features Tom Connors' trademark dry, story- telling vocals, stomping-board rhythms and guitar flatpicking, spiced up with guest fiddle, mandolin, banjo, steel guitar, and dobro. Connors delivers only one humorous track on the disc ("The Ballinafad Ball") and more love songs than he is want to, including Lena Kathleen for his wife. Connors' message boils down to one recipe, offered in the title track, for solving Canada's problems in 20 words or less: "If you don't believe your country should come before yourself, you can better serve your country by living somewhere else."
