Beginner's Guide to Asian Lounge is a three-CD set that is pretty affordable, and since the name Nascente is on it, you don't have to be worried that it's entirely built towards a price. The budget-minded label may not always be able to license all the names you want, but they're smart and aware and the numerous satisfying tracks from lesser-known names included here prove it. The Beginner's Guide to Asian Lounge is divided into three distinct discs; the "Asian Club" disc for dancing, the "Asian Chill" disc for chilling, and the "Asian Bar" disc for something in-between. The "Asian" in the title doesn't always mean from Asian territories -- Bonobo is a bloke from Brighton, for one -- and many of the tracks are Western-flavored electronica with sitars or Bollywood samples scattered about. Nice set, good liner notes, and if you don't know Tabla Beat Science, Transglobal Underground, Badmarsh & Shri, or the wicked hit "Mundian to Bach Ke," you shouldn't bother to think twice.
