AllMusic Review by

Weaving together emotional pop in the vein of Weezer with the hardcore aggression of Stretch Arm Strong, Becoming Leviathan features a sound that Narcissus seems to have mastered. Strong, uplifting guitar riffs swallow the listener whole, and passionate vocals run the gamut of emotions. Narcissus overwhelms the listener with lengthy songs that allow full musical expression, a great example of this being "Ambient Diablo." The song begins with a thick electronic presence, similar to 2001 Zao, yet is expanded upon with incredible vocal and lyrical depth that brings to mind mainstream groups such as Embodyment and Flaw. Each member of Narcissus seems to put mind, body, and soul into his music; never does the listener feel disappointed with Becoming Leviathan. The instrumentals are awe-inspiring masterpieces, dazzling the listener with impressive musical proficiency. There is a veritable plethora of intriguing artwork within the album booklet, allowing listeners to be visually seduced as they are enamored by the melodic musical beauty Narcissus unleashes. Narcissus carries strong artistic flair that enhances this album, creating purely heartfelt tunes outlined with remarkable vision and purity. Becoming Leviathan is a spectacular album; Narcissus has managed to arrange an album that has zero mistakes and is overflowing with exquisite beauty.
