Duplicating material released in more complete fashion on the second and third volumes of the Jazz Nocturne series on Fat Cat Jazz, this LP features the Sidney Bechet-Bunk Johnson New Orleans band during their stay at the Savoy Cafe in Boston. Unfortunately Johnson's drinking and erratic playing would result in him being dropped from the group soon afterward. This set contains music played at a rehearsal (at the time Johnson and Bechet were not even talking to each other) and parts of two radio broadcasts. Those fans curious about this historic collaboration and not able to find the rarer Fat Cat releases will find this to be an often-fascinating set.
