Weather Report's 1971 live performance at the Beat Club makes it to tape in the form of a ten-minute video. This early version of the band features Alphonse Mouzon (drums), Miroslav Vitous (bass), and Dom Um Romao (percussion), alongside Zawinul and Shorter. Romao had just replaced Airto Moreira, who contributed percussion to the original studio recording of the piece "Waterfall," found on Weather Report's self-titled debut LP. The group's performance on Beat Club 1971 is energetic and inspired, with kudos to Romao, whose eclectic array of percussives is the cherry on top of this flavorful jazz fusion. The band continues to jam as the picture and sound unfortunately fade out. The videotape technical aspects (sound quality, camera work, lighting) are solid, as is the case with most Beat Club sessions.
