Randy Newman wrote the songs for Disney’s 2009 animated feature The Princess and the Frog but has nothing to do with 2010’s Bayou Boogie, a collection of songs inspired by the film and sung by its characters. Fittingly, the songs here sound like skillful knockoffs of Newman’s clever Big Easy pastiche, only broader, cartoonier -- still catchy, but undeniably kiddie, relying on character and jokes. This is bound to disappoint anybody who found the original soundtrack a pleasant surprise but this is still entertaining, even if it’s more of a conventional family album than the proper soundtrack.
