Fifteen songs inspired by the Batman TV series, including the Neal Hefti series theme that made the Top 40 in 1966; Adam West's woeful 1966 single "Miranda"; the Batman theme as played by Al Hirt and Davie Allan; and another terrible single by Adam West, this time with specifically Batman-related lyrics, recorded and released in Britain in the mid-'70s. Most of the emphasis, though, is upon novelties, like the cash-in singles by Burgess Meredith (who played the Penguin on the show) and Frank Gorshin (who played the Riddler, and sings "The Riddler" as well); LaVern Baker's "Batman to the Rescue" (adapted from her '50s hit "Jim Dandy"); Jan & Dean's "The Joker is Wild"; and so on. There's only so much you can do with the premise, and it makes for tough repeated listening, of avid interest mostly to fanatical fans of the series.
