Bali! Still considered the last paradise on earth, it is a place where spirituality and art, and especially music and dance, are part of everyday life. All children from a young age learn a form of art; when adults, instead of watching TV, they sculpt masks or practice music. There are more temples than houses on the island. Balinese make offerings to the gods on a daily basis. Life stops for the time of the ceremony; well, almost, as music and prayers become the order of the moment. This excellent CD gives an overview of Balinese life through music. It starts with the crowing of the cock announcing the arrival of the day and ends with the music of a cremation ceremony, a ceremony particular to Bali. We hear at times children singing, people talking, or prayers in the background between pieces. A day in the life of Bali!
