AllMusic Review by John Bush

The second volume in the rave/hardcore retrospective series from a surprising source -- British superclub/label Ministry of Sound -- ranks just below its excellent predecessor. It too runs the gamut of sounds and scenes making up the rave generation, from passionate Euro-dance (Ce Ce Peniston, Rozalla, Clivilles & Cole, Cappella) to glazed-eye techno (Sweet Exorcist's "Testone"), the leading edge of hardcore-into-jungle (2 Bad Mice, SL2, Sonz of a Loop Da Loop Era, Ratpack), and just a few still-fresh novelty tracks ("Sesame's Treet" by Smart E's, "We Call It Acieed" by D-Mob, "Evapor-8" by Altern 8). Though it's not all first-class, there's a good reason each track is here, and taking the two best self-titled tracks in techno history ("LFO" and "2 Bad Mice") is always a good idea. Ministry of Sound never did much to endear themselves to dance fans before, but here's to the new Rhino (hopefully not the old ZYX) of the electronica scene.
