Back to Back compilations can be useful ways to collect a couple of hits from two groups with much in common (and thus, a common audience). K-Tel's volume in the series that focuses on Atlantic Starr and the Jets is certainly not useful, since it includes only re-recordings, not the original hits, and ones that sometimes feature only one member of the original group. (At least K-Tel admits that fact on the front and back cover.) The backup studio band ably re-creates the original urban/synth pop settings for these hits ("Always," "Crush on You," etc.), and the vocalists are able to summon basically the same emotion at the core of each song, but for all practical purpose this is a worthless collection.
