Made for those who are looking for more sophisticated club music, Back Room, Vol. 2 is a two-disc collection of DJ-mixed tracks that highlight the more sensuous, lush, and seductive nature of house. The beats are there, but the keys and synths, the flutes, and the smooth (generally female) vocals are more important, and are shown off well. Not all of the artists included are big names in the scene, but the overall aesthetic is kept intact as the album moves from Trentemoller's "Le Champagne" to Reel People's "The Rain," from Natenshun's "Soul Music" to Fire Island's "There But for the Grace of God." For those looking for an upbeat set to propel through marathon clubbing sessions, Back Room, Vol. 2 will disappoint, but for those wanting mellower house to relax to as the sun sets on a Friday evening and to keep on repeat until early Monday morning, it may just do the trick.
