One of 1980s punk rock favorites the Ruts' best-known songs, "Babylon's Burning," is re-imagined here in 16 widely varying remixes by contemporary artists from equally differing backgrounds. German punks Die Toten Hosen go for a fairly conventional wide-angle approach, while the Groove Corporation hew close to the Ruts' reggae tendencies with a rootsy bass and drum-heavy mix. Rob Smith's spare approach leaves just a vocal track over beatbox and guitar, and there are also drum-and-bass and ambient reworkings. An intriguing experiment that often produces fascinating results.
