With their steel drums and warm, uptempo rhythms, this white reggae group from L.A. sounds authentically Caribbean. Perhaps frontman Matt Gerovac resembles Men at Work's Colin Hay. There are no rastas with natty dreads, Jah isn't invited, they don't say "I and I," and the playing doesn't reek of weed. But if they come off more UB40 than Peter Tosh, they're nevertheless good at this, period, so forget pigment. At least, it's clear from first-rate drummer Brandon Peterson and Gerovac's tight, offbeat downstrokes that they've let the entire idiom leak into their souls. So when they dig in harder, especially on the standouts "Why?" and "Follow," they pass out legit Jamaican joyfulness.
