The Baby Steps EP showcases the many talents of one of Detroit's most revered house producers. Theo Parrish goes deep and funky for this release, starting out with the dark and moody "Walking Through the Sky," which also appears on his Roots Revisited EP on his Sound Signature label. Then Parrish adds a touch of soul for "Lake Shore Drive," inspired by Chicago's most glamorous stretch of lakefront. With a string synth of the verge of busting loose and a hot keyboard sequence, this short track is just long enough to give you a taste of his talents. "Early Byrd" provides for a spectacular finish; a building new-era soul track, the artist hits home with this one. With a contagious bassline, looped piano riff, and a short looped vocal that could have been taken from any '70s soul album, this track was meant to get people on the dancefloor, shakin' like it was 1976.
