The Jamaicans burst on the scene when their nonsense song, "Ba Ba Boom," won the Jamaican Festival song contest in 1967. That song, and their other big local hit, "Things You Say You Love," are both included in this compilation of Duke Reid-produced tracks, along with a fine cover of Curtis Mayfield's "Dedicate My Song to You" and the original version of "Black Girl," which Boney M re-recorded in 1978. The Jamaicans broke up before the harder conscious and roots reggae era really got going, so the group's material and themes may strike some listeners as a bit lightweight, but fans of Jamaican harmony trios will find this selection to be a delight.
