Aurora Review

by Marc van der Pol

Null and James Plotkin, two grindcore extremists of past days, collaborate on Aurora to create dark ambient music. Despite being recorded on a primitive four-track, this is an intensely textured and brooding release. "Dead Moon Ritual" brings the listener to an eerie, yet tranquil void, only for that tranquillity to be disrupted by sparsely placed echoing bells. "Sawtooth Swirl," on the other hand, is a superb psychedelic experience, bringing to mind James' band OLD during the Musical Dimensions of Sleastak years. Compared to Plotkin's other contemporary efforts, this is definitely among his best work.
