Dr. Billy Dodd is a fine trad pianist who for qute a few years played every Sunday afternoon in Dublin, GA. In 1989, he had the opportunity to lead an all-star group at a concert at Macon, GA's, grand opera house. Dodd and his septet (which includes cornetist Ed Polcer, trombonist Harry DiVito, clarinetist Herman Foretich, Dick Meldonian on tenor, bassist Major Holley, and drummer Sonny Igoe) are heard running through a dozen Dixieland warhorses, six of which are included on this first of two CDs. Highlights include "Indiana," "Big Butter and Egg Man," and "That's a Plenty" with Polcer in particularly fine form.
