Augustus Pablo is the king of the melodica, King Tubby is one of the early rulers of the land of dub, and this meeting of reggae royalty is everything one would expect. Tubby's cavernous, reverb-drenched dub framework provides the perfect base for Pablo to unfurl his thoughtful melodica lines, which are as mellifluous and downright hummable as the vocal lines of the finest reggae singers. Don't let the bare-bones (and yes, perhaps slightly cheesy) packaging fool you: one needs nothing more than what these two geniuses laid to wax decades ago. This is dub reggae at its apex. However, those looking for further listening should check out the duo's classic collaboration, 1976's KING TUBBY MEETS ROCKERS UPTOWN.
