AllMusic Review by

Welsh guitarist, singer, and harmonica player Spencer Davis put together one of the most exciting and explosive of the British Invasion's pop blues bands, and with a teenaged Stevie Winwood adding his soulful vocals to hits like "Keep On Running," "Somebody Help Me," and "Gimme Some Lovin'," the Spencer Davis Band assembled an impressive little legacy in the mid-1960s. Things downshifted when Winwood left the band in 1967, however, and while Davis kept a band together (now calling it the Spencer Davis Group), and had a couple of minor hits with "Mr. Second Class" and "Time Seller," he disbanded the group at the end of the decade. This set covers the whole of Davis' career during this time, and includes all of the above songs, making for a pretty decent survey of Davis' commercial and creative peak as a bandleader.
