Unlike its companion volume, LaserLight's The Best Of Pat Boone: April Love, The Best Of Pat Boone: Love Letters In The Sand contains relatively few 1974 rerecordings of Boone's early hits, only the title song and "Tutti Frutti." The rest consists of his remakes of other people's 1950s hits, such as Hank Williams's "Hey Good Lookin'" and Buddy Holly's "Oh Boy," as well as a contemporary cover of Mac Davis's "I Believe In Music." As Boone remained as a ludicrous performer of rock 'n' roll in the '70s as he had been in the '50s, there is very little here that shows him at his best.
