This album begins with accents of high bells, and tones seem to blossom colorfully from their sonic reflections. Flutes careen around magic inner spaces, while gongs seem to signal the arrival of great thoughts and feelings. Your imagination can really float free in this 24-minute sonic experience, titled "Perception and Opening." The electric guitar adds an everyman element to the experience, something to latch onto or identify with, and the piece ends peacefully with notes from a flute. The second half of the album contains three pieces beginning with "The Luminous Path," a directionless free form improvisation for processed electric guitar and synthesizer. "Transcendence" offers ghostly tones of lost souls, while "Sanctuary" seems to parry synthesizer versus guitar with a fair amount of dissonance. Even with far-out space music, one has to have some reference; listeners may have difficulty getting their bearings on the second half.
