A relatively old album by CD standards, this one from the French label Atoll has Astor Piazzolla playing a number of his own compositions. As should be expected, the playing is outstanding, as are the compositions themselves. The one missing factor here would be liner notes in English, but that's not a completely unexpected problem, given the foreign nature of the album. The deep chords and squealing violins common to Piazzolla's nuevo tango are apparent from the start. Along with this are a few influences from jazz piano and rock stutter guitar that are added in for good measure. Overall, it may not be the best Piazzolla album available, but it's certainly still worth a listen.
