AllMusic Review by

Guitarist and composer John Bruschini is best known for his work with pianist Cecil Taylor and for his amazingly reflexive musicianship, quick mind, and superb creative instincts. His new CD As You Were features all of those traits and covers a diversity of styles ranging from funk, fusion, urban, and soulful ballads. Joined by Jeff Hirshfield on drums, Kip Reed on bass, Robert Aries on keyboards, and guest violinist Jim Nolet, John Bruschini brings nine excellent compositions to his fans with consistent fire, inspired thoughtful strumming, and artful expertise. His ability to convey his skills through such songs as the title track, "Way Down," "Glory," and "Ancestral Seeds" assist both the novice and experienced ears with their understanding of Bruschini's instinctive undercurrents and encourages ones own realization concerning matters of mind, spirituality, and love.
