AllMusic Review by

A collection of music from 1952 to 1989, this is far from a greatest-hits compendium, and excludes prime music from the Jazztet, as well as many of Farmer's most famous latter-period pieces from Ph.D and Blame It on My Youth. "Farmer's Market" is here, as is "Wisteria," and you hear his transition from trumpet to fl├╝gelhorn to flumpet. More from When Farmer Met Gryce and different selections alongside Clifford Jordan would have made for a more satisfying sampler.
