The first of two LPs recorded by the Montana-based Big Sky Mudflaps (the second album was a slightly later effort for the Flying Fish label), this set has quite a bit of variety, both in styles and in quality. The sextet (which includes Rob Sanders on violin and viola, Dexter Payne on alto and clarinet, guitarist David Horgan, and a three-piece rhythm section with every one but drummer Michael Lea singing somewhere along the way) performs some swing tunes, a few originals, and even "Yardbird Suite." The musicianship and solos have an amateurish feel about them, but there are plenty of good spirits expressed. Best are "Sentimental Gentleman From Georgia" (which has three of the musicians singing á la the Boswell Sisters), "The Bluest Blues," and "Do Nothin' Till You Hear From Me."
