If this K-Tel production's hokey cover art is a not-so-subtle analysis of '80s plasticity and throwaway culture, it's spot-on. Unfortunately, it's more likely the horrifying, emphatic statement of a graphic designer tired of the label's unending stream of compilation madness. If you're able to shield your eyes from the harsh angles and ugly purples of its cover art, Arena Rock 80's is a set led by Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" and J. Geils' "Centerfold," and filled out with minor singles from .38 Special, Survivor, and Sammy Hagar. Spectacularly unessential.
