Ajax is primarily lead singer Mitchel and Aphrodite is a five-song EP that followed two earlier releases. Garbage is a very good yardstick for this album; dance-oriented rock with a glossy pop sheen. "Experience No. 2" and "Ex-Junkie" are both litanies of Gen-X stereotypes and events. A throbbing dance beat and grinding guitars drives the former, while the latter is a little more funky and loose. "Over" finds Mitchel ruminating over an indecisive breakup over a breezy melody. "Once in a While" veers more into the territory of electronic bands like Olive with its sparse, space-age feel and synthesized gurgles. Aphrodite offers the listener a delightful taste of Ajax's infectious sound.
