AllMusic Review by

After Dionne Warwick, soul belter Chuck Jackson was arguably the premier interpreter of the indelible pop songs of composer Burt Bacharach -- Any Day Now's title cut remains the apex of their collaboration, its dramatic arrangement and suffocating fatalism proving the perfect showcase for Jackson's richly poignant vocals. Jackson's second Wand LP also features the wrenching ballad "I Keep Forgetting," but on the whole the record is wildly uneven, fleshing out the hits with pedestrian filler -- the singer invests even the weakest material like "Angel of Angels" with startling emotion, but more often than not his rescue attempts fall short. [The British label Kent later reissued Any Day Now on a two-fer CD alongside its superior predecessor, I Don't Want to Cry. The record's highlights are also available on virtually every Chuck Jackson hits compilation.]
