A major part of the African-American contribution to American Literature has been lyrical verse. Selected and read by Arna Bontemps, the poems in this recording deal with washing dishes, rainy days, an incident on the streets of Baltimore -- in short, the details of everyday life. This anthology includes works by some of the outstanding poets of the 20th century, including Sterling Brown, Countee Cullen, Langston Hughes, Georgia Douglas Johnson and the Reflections, Johnson and Claude McKay.
