A wonderful collection covering everything from percussion finaçon and accordion funana to the most gorgeous morna and coladeira, it includes all the names we've already met from Travadinha to Cesaria Evora, and many more whose lack is a major deprivation. It baffles one how Cuba, an island of ten million souls (fewer in its heyday), could have created so many superb and different musical idioms. Cape Verde baffles even more. It's a handful of tiny islands, a very high percentage of whose population lives overseas. Yet its musical riches are truly staggering.
