AllMusic Review by

On his solo debut Anon, multi-instrumentalist Anon Egeland plays the jew's harp, two kinds of Norwegian flute, and the Hardanger fiddle, a specially tuned Norwegian fiddle that features drone strings and has a haunting, timeless sound. Egeland learned many of the 24 tunes on the album from now-deceased traditional players from Sweden and Norway; some of these songs were taught to him only. On half of Anon's tracks, two of Egeland's longtime collaborators accompany him: Leiv Solberg provides mandlola and guitar backing, and Mikael Marin of Väsen adds viola. Songs like "Springdans Etter Torgrim Melås," "Nordafjells," and "Kristines Klagesang" spotlight the fluid interplay of the trio's work, as well as Egeland's solo skill.
