A very fluent trombonist who is quite creative within the world of bebop/hard bop, Andy Martin has a strong underground reputation among musicians although he is not that well known yet to the general public. On this excellent showcase for his talents, Martin is heard performing in a quartet with guitarist Larry Koonse, bassist Trey Henry and drummer Ray Brinker. Veteran tenor-saxophonist Dave Pell guests on "'S Wonderful" and "These Foolish Things," the latter a duet with Koonse. Otherwise the focus throughout is mostly on Martin and Koonse as they inspire each other on a set of standards plus the trombonist's "Line For Lewis" (based on "Limehouse Blues" and dedicated to British bandleader Vic Lewis). Among the other highlights are "East Of The Sun," "Someday My Prince Will Come" and "But Beautiful."
