George Jones ended a long association with Epic and producer Billy Sherrill in 1990 when he jumped ship to MCA and Kyle Lehning. His MCA debut wasn't a masterpiece, but it was stronger than almost everything he'd done in the '80s. The abandoned house in "Where the Tall Grass Grows" is yet another symbol for the unchecked memories of Jones's mind, and the Post-it Notes in "You Couldn't Get the Picture" are the kind of trivial detail he loves. The Cajun remake of "You Done Me Wrong" (co-written in 1960 with Ray Price) works, and the only moment of true silliness is "Heckel and Jeckel."
