Long out of print, Ancestors is quintessential Edith Frost. In classic style, she offers three songs that are stylistically diverse, but bundled together by her Patsy Cline-cum-Liz Phair vocal delivery and soft, almost muted musicianship. The title track is a ghostly rumination on meeting familial ascendants in the afterlife, while "Secrets" and "Cold and On My Mind" are beautiful country songs content to float around in the ether. Frost has really come into her own as a songwriter of singular talent on this single, which only sounds better with each successive spin.
