AllMusic Review by

After years of leading trios, pianist-vocalist Page Cavanaugh decided to try a change-of-pace. He formed a septet (the Page 7) consisting of trombonists Lew McCreary and Dave Wells, Bob Jung on baritone and alto and a four-piece rhythm section with guitarist John Pisano, bassist Don Bagley and drummer Jack Sperling. For awhile in the early-to-mid-'60s the group did a lot of business in the L.A. area, recording two LPs of which this was their first. They performed jazz-oriented pop music, renditions of melodic standards and originals that clocked in at less than three-minutes apiece. The enjoyable if lightweight instrumental program on this out-of-print album is highlighted by "Putt It," "The Swingin' Saints," "Sweet and Sassy" and "The Preacher."
