The recordings on this LP from Tax are rare, historic and (most importantly) quite enjoyable. On the first of two albums focusing on American musicians who lived in Europe during at least part of the 1930s, there are performances by trumpeter Arthur Briggs and pianist Freddy Johnson (they perform a couple of delightful duets and are heard in larger groups), pianist Herman Chittison (who romps through three solos) and Bobby Martin's All-Star Orchestra (a group also including trumpeter Bill Coleman and pianist Ram Ramirez). There is lots of valuable and heated music on this appealing set.
