Continuing the series, EMI Gold (the part of EMI responsible for mid-level and budget-level U.K. compilations and reissues) released Alternative Album, Vol. 4 in 2006, culling songs from (mostly British) bands that all had relative success in the first half of the new millennium's first decade. As the title states, the music stays within the fairly large realm of adult "alternative," but as an album, it differs from the more radio-driven choices of the American Now That's What I Call Music! Unsurprisingly, favorites like Coldplay, Supergrass, Richard Ashcroft, and Radiohead are included, but a fair amount of other, less famous artists (Magic Numbers, We Are Scientists, the Kooks, and the Bees) make the final cut as well. Alternative Album, Vol. 4 isn't an extraordinary record, but it does a pretty good job of capturing some of the sounds that were playing in Britain during the first five years of the 21st century.
