At the time this LP was released in 1985, none of the 11 performances on the album had been previously released and this set made for a fine complement with pianist Bud Powell's other five Blue Note albums. All of the music has now been reissued on CD and placed within the original sessions so this album has gone out of print. There are four selections included here from Powell's classic quintet matchup with trumpeter Fats Navarro and the young tenor Sonny Rollins, trio performances from 1949, 1953, 1957 and 1958, and two numbers from 1963 including one ("Our Love Is Here to Stay") that features tenor-saxophonist Dexter Gordon. Throughout Bud Powell is in consistently excellent form.
