Almost Live in Europe Review

by Stephen Raiteri

These live recordings of the new English Rock Ensemble (featuring original singer Ashley Holt) from 1989-1991 were originally plagued with tape dropouts, so Wakeman overdubbed them for this release. It features some less familiar material -- selections from No Earthly Connection and Time Machine, plus a previously unreleased song -- along with the expected excerpts from The Six Wives of Henry VIII and The Myths and Legends of King Arthur. Holt is his usual stentorian self, and the Six Wives and King Arthur material has sounded better elsewhere.
