In 2000, Allan K. released Allan K. Diva?. A well-known Philippine comedian and a mainstay on a daily variety show named Eat Bulaga!, this album sees Allan K. taking a comedic approach to several well-known Philippine songs, including "Kumusta Ka" (trans: How Are you) and "Ayoko Na Sa'yo" (trans: I Don't Like You Anymore), adding new, funny lyrics and generally camping it up.
He also sings several songs in a sincere, straightforward manner, as heard in the tender love song "Minsan" and the upbeat Latin-styled number "Ola Chika." He also does a creditable rendition of James Brown's "I Feel Good" featuring the same funky horn arrangement as heard on Brown's original version, which is correctly titled "I Got You (I Feel Good)."
Although meant to be a novelty album, Allan K. is a credible singer and has a gritty, appealing voice, always singing on-key and never grating on one's nerves. Allan K. pokes fun and plays up his homosexuality both on the TV variety show Eat Bulaga! and on this album. For example, on "Oh My Papa," he sings about his "sugar daddy" who takes care of his every needs, and on "Magladlad Ka" (trans: Show Your True Colors), he discusses a homosexual friend who tries to act straight.
In the Philippines, many homosexuals flaunt their sexuality, and it's not much out of the ordinary to hear lyrics such as these. Because Allan K. doesn't take himself seriously and the music is meant to make one smile, the album comes off as authentic, and it provides many enjoyable moments.
