AllMusic Review by

The first-ever double-disc retrospective of Crowded House's entire career (minus anything from the second comeback album, Intriguer), All the Best is a rich, 40-track overview of the New Zealand pop band's career. The sequencing isn't chronological -- it opens with "Weather with You," from their third album Woodface, their breakthrough hit "Don't Dream It's Over" doesn't arrive until the second -- but that winds up underscoring the consistency of Crowded House's catalog and, especially, Neil Finn's songwriting. As the title promises, the hits are all here -- "Chocolate Cake," "Fall at Your Feet," "It's Only Natural," "Private Universe," "Something So Strong," "Better Be Home Soon," "Four Seasons in One Day," "Distant Sun," "Locked Out," "World Where You Live," "Now We're Getting Somewhere" -- and if the sequencing is sometimes a little off, it's nevertheless a terrific, thorough summation of the many things that make Crowded House great.
