Perhaps a better title for this collection of vintage jazz should have been "All That Swing," for it certainly represents a only small slice of the music popular in the '30s and '40s: pre-bop. Each artist -- Benny Goodman, Bix Beiderbecke and Tommy Dorsey, get four selections apiece -- with Goodman's numbers clearly the strongest from his repertoire. The Beiderbecke tunes are very well known, with Dorsey bringing up the rear in terms of familiarity. If you enjoy any of these artists, you're likely to pass on this collection in lieu of any recording featured any one of these artists exclusively. It is also a disc that is woefully short on total time, at about 38 minutes.
