In the mid-'70s Capitol went through their vaults and put together a short-lived series titled Capitol Jazz Classics. This Lp (which was Vol. 6) has classic performances by the Capitol International Jazzmen (a 1945 all-star group with trumpeter Bill Coleman, altoist Benny Carter, Coleman Hawkins on tenor, pianist Nat King Cole and, on one number, singer Kay Starr), four numbers from the 1947 and 1951 Metronome All Stars (very boppish groups with either Dizzy Gillespie or Miles Davis) and six rare selections by what was called the Louis Bellson Just Jazz All-Stars. The latter group was mostly comprised of Duke Ellington sidemen from 1952 plus tenor-great Wardell Gray. It's a stimulating set of music.
