Canadian-born, L.A.-based singer Mandi Perkins earned her law degree and passed the California bar, all while moonlighting as an emotional pop singer whose songs have been featured on shows like THE HILLS and THE REAL WORLD. This, her major-label debut, showcases Perkins's capacious vocal range and dramatic verve. She has worked with members of OneRepublic, and you can hear the influence of that group and other bands like Evanescence in the alternation between despondency and bombast. Chugging power chords underlie lyrics about letting go and losing friends on the single "Why Pretend." "Who I Am" and the title track are more restrained, piano-based affairs.
