This CD reissue has selections from three different tenors: six from an Al Cohn date, one from Zoot Sims and three by Dexter Gordon. The Cohn session is from 1956 and features the cool-toned saxophonist with pianist Hank Jones, bassist Milt Hinton and drummer Osie Johnson. Sims' title (the ballad "Ill Wind") is a leftover and, as with the Cohn performances, was originally recorded for the Dawn label. The Dexter Gordon performances are quite a bit different, three standards played with vibraphonist Lionel Hampton in a septet in 1977 and originally put out on the Who's Who label. Overall none of the music is essential but there are enough fine straightahead solos to make this a worthwhile set.
